Two low-carbon fuels, innovations from Aral

Aral announces the release of two new low-carbon fuels at a station in Berlin and another in Düsseldorf. These products emit on average 25% less CO₂ than pure fossil fuels.

An emissive sector

The Statistisches Bundesamt states that transport accounts for 1/4 of the EU’s CO2 emissions. By 2030, these emissions will have to be reduced by 65% and two thirds of all trips will be made with internal combustion vehicles.

The pressure is already being felt by distributors. They will be obliged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% in 2030. To date, there is no better option than a blend of biofuel and fossil fuel. This is precisely the solution offered by Aral.

Futura Super 95 and Aral Futura Diesel contain at least 30% high quality renewable components. State Secretary Oliver Luksic was present at the first symbolic filling of a passenger car at the Berlin Holzmarktstraße site.

Low carbon fuels

The renewable components in both fuels still meet the current DIN EN 590 (diesel) and DIN EN 228 (gasoline) standards. Vehicles that can run on E10 or B7 fuel have a place in the energy transition. In addition to e-mobility, advanced biofuels are an effective lever to reduce CO2 emissions without taking existing vehicles off the market.

The CEO of Aral AG, Patrick Wendeler states:

“We are convinced that CO2-saving gasoline and diesel fuels can play an important role in the transportation energy transition – even as it continues to expand vehicle electrification and engine diversification such as bio-LNG, bio-CNG and hydrogen in heavy-duty transportation. With our new fuels, we are demonstrating what is already possible under current fuel standards.”

In addition, the Aral Anti-Schmutz-Formel formula is present in both fuels. Certified by TÜV-Rheinland, it removes dirt from the engine. It contributes to the maintenance of the latter by protecting it from any clogging.

Finally, Aral will not be limited to the development of low-carbon fuels. It will also develop infrastructures that promote the decarbonization of transport. It will be able to convert some of the 1,000 charge points they already have to make them compatible with bio-LNG/bio-CNG and hydrogen.
