Shell, Avia, and Engie: deputies start a series of hearings on Tuesday on the subject of “superprofits”, with a view to the examination of the draft budget in Parliament in the fall.
The “flash mission” announced in July by the chairman of the Finance Committee, Eric Coquerel (LFI), which includes eight members of different political groups, should complete its work in early October.
“The goal is to enlighten the debate, so that we can arrive at a clear diagnosis because the subject is complicated, and we will see if we can reach common conclusions,” according to David Amiel (Renaissance, presidential majority), co-rapporteur with the rebel Manuel Bompard.
The mission focuses on “oil and gas and shipping companies that have made exceptional profits during the crisis.
The hearings, which will be broadcast live on the Assembly’s website, will start on Tuesday at 3:00 pm with the CEO of Ufip Energies et Mobilités, which groups together the major oil groups in France. This will be followed by managers from Shell, Avia, as well as subsidiaries of large distribution groups in charge of purchasing oil.
On September 20, the Union des entreprises de transport et logistique de France (TLF), the oil sector unions and a deputy general manager of Engie will be heard.
The socialist deputies are also preparing a proposal for a shared initiative referendum to obtain a tax on superprofits.
Majority and right-wing LR had rejected this summer the amendments proposed by the left-wing alliance Nupes on the subject during the discussion of the purchasing power package in the Assembly and the Senate.
