Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has concluded an agreement to deploy more than 430 megawatt-hours (MWh) of energy storage capacity in Bulgaria, strengthening its presence in the European market. This project is part of the company’s strategy to offer integrated storage solutions designed to optimise investments and performance over the entire lifecycle of the system.

Deployment of technologies and energy arbitrage

The system designed by Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co., Ltd. will be responsible for absorbing low-cost electricity during off-peak periods and returning stored energy to the grid during periods of peak demand. This tariff arbitrage mechanism shortens project payback periods and improves the return on investment. The combination of a modular design, long-life batteries, and precise control of charge and discharge cycles is intended to ensure stable operation in complex environments.

The company stated that the official launch of the project took place in August 2025, with delivery scheduled for the end of December. Full commissioning and connection to the Bulgarian grid are expected in March 2026. Maintenance services and technological support will accompany the operation to ensure the system’s reliability.

Strengthening the value chain in Europe

Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co., Ltd. has established its European headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany, and has developed a production base with a capacity of 3 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in Málaga, Spain. This organisation aims to control the value chain, from research and development to manufacturing and delivery.

The company is positioned in the international market with solutions focused on economic sustainability, reduced operating and maintenance costs, and extending the lifespan of equipment. Thanks to its manufacturing and delivery capabilities, it has been ranked among the world’s tier 1 suppliers in the field of energy storage systems.

Market outlook and strategic role

The storage project in Bulgaria sets a new benchmark for Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co., Ltd., which continues to expand its influence in Eastern Europe. The installation is presented as a supporting element for the modernisation of the Bulgarian energy grid, with attention to the stability and security of supply.

The completion of this project comes amid growing demand for storage solutions to balance electricity production and consumption. A representative of Shanghai Sermatec Energy Technology Co., Ltd. stated that “the reliability of deliveries and operational support are essential factors for sector development”.
