SBM Offshore and Technip Energies have signed a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a joint venture, EkWiL, dedicated to floating offshore wind energy. This alliance aims to capitalize on the potential of the floating offshore wind market by combining the two companies’ complementary technical expertise, engineering and technologies. However, the partnership between these two companies is a reminder of the impact that wind power can have. For example, Germany’s 342 MW Kaskasi wind farm could supply electricity to over 400,000 homes.

ÉkWiL: An integrated solution

Ekwil is clearly part of SBM’s commitment to the energy transition. SBM Offshore had already launched a share buyback program worth 150 million euros in 2021. EkWiL has positioned itself as a key player in the field of floating offshore wind energy. It thus combines T.EN™’s INO15 semi-submersible and SBM Offshore’s Float4Wind® tension-leg platform technologies. In a press release, Technip Energies stated that Ekwil’s long-term goal is to offer “leading integrated floating solutions and project delivery offerings for the floating offshore wind market”.

Commitment to Energy Transition

The CEOs of SBM Offshore and Technip Energies expressed their shared vision of energy and their mutual commitment to the energy transition. And it is precisely in this context that they are working together to promote renewable energies on a global scale.

Designed as a “50/50” joint venture, EkWiL will draw on both SBM Offshore’s proven experience in the design, construction and operation of offshore facilities, and Technip Energies’ technical expertise in engineering and technology. By combining the strengths of these two companies, the creation of EkWiL represents an original alliance.
