RWE ‘s first solar power plant in Italy, located in Partinico near Palermo, Sicily, will cover 16 hectares. The 8.3 MWac plant, equipped with 15,000 bifacial modules, is designed to maximize production efficiency thanks to its ability to absorb solar radiation on both sides of the panels. The commission is scheduled for the end of the year.

Energy impact and accelerated development

The park will produce enough green electricity to meet the needs of 7,000 Italian households. The accelerated permitting process in Italy enabled this project to move from the development phase to construction in less than 18 months, a record for RWE, according to Katja Wünschel, CEO of RWE Renewables Europe & Australia.

RWE’s renewable strategy and expansion in Italy

With an already strong presence in Italy, RWE operates 15 wind farms with an installed capacity of around 500 MW. These installations supply 400,000 Italian households with green electricity every year. RWE is currently building the 54 MW San Severo wind farm, and is about to start construction of the Mondonuovo wind farm in Apulia, reinforcing its leading role in the Italian renewables market.

Advanced technologies and energy efficiency

Bosco’s bifacial modules use a second glass panel to capture light refracted from behind, increasing energy production and efficiency. This advanced technology puts RWE at the forefront of innovation in the solar sector.

The Bosco project illustrates RWE’s commitment to developing sustainable energy solutions in Italy, and demonstrates the company’s ability to implement innovative technologies for an effective energy transition.
