In Pozo Izquierdo, on the island of Gran Canaria, Absolicon announces the commissioning of a solar thermal plant.
A solar thermal installation
In Pozo Izquierdo, Absolicon puts into operation a solar thermal field of 88 square meters of Absolicon T160 solar collectors. They are located in the facilities of the Institute of Technology of the Canary Islands (ITC). The solar power plant will be able to produce steam at four bars.
The ITC organized a seminar on the decarbonization of the Canary Islands’ industries with solar thermal. The objective is to present the new facility in Pozo Izquierdo. In addition, the ITC allows the visit of the solar installation of Absolicon.
A steam production
In November 2021, Absolicon won a contract with ITC to install a concentrated solar field to produce steam. ITC is looking for technologies in the industrial sector to reduce the dependence and climate impact of fossil fuels. This approach is in line with the objectives of the European project ACLIEMA coordinated by ITC.
Absolicon’s solar thermal plant will now serve as a reference for industries in the Canary Islands. The ITC estimates that the Canary Islands industry can easily install 100,000 square meters of solar collectors. Thus, this area could replace 10,000 tons of fossil fuels.
