German group Nordex has secured an order from project developer SAB WindTeam for the supply and installation of 13 N163/6.X wind turbines. This order represents a total installed capacity of 91 megawatts (MW), accompanied by a comprehensive Premium Service contract lasting 20 years covering complete maintenance of the turbines. Each of these wind turbines will have a hub height of 164 metres, specifically tailored to suit the forest site selected for their installation. The wind farm will be located in Fretzdorf, near Wittstock/Dosse, in the Brandenburg region of Germany.

Precise installation timeline

Installation operations for the Fretzdorfer Heide wind farm are set to commence in the third quarter of 2026. According to Nordex’s published schedule, full commissioning of all 13 wind turbines is planned for spring 2027. Nordex, the equipment supplier, specialises in the manufacturing and sales of high-capacity onshore wind turbines, with significant presence in the European market. Selecting the N163/6.X model is aligned with the current trend towards machinery optimised for complex forested sites, offering enhanced performance at medium wind speeds.

Long-term commitment

Felipe Villalon Waldburg-Zeil, Regional Director of Sales for Central Europe at Nordex Group, said: “We are proud to once again collaborate with SAB WindTeam on a project of this magnitude such as Fretzdorfer Heide. This project clearly supports the expansion of renewable energy in Germany and sustainable development in the Brandenburg region.” The executive also highlighted the value of a long-term service agreement to ensure continuous turbine availability. Such agreements are today seen as essential to maintaining the operational reliability of installations.

Strategic technical choice

Lars Niebuhr, Managing Director of SAB WindTeam GmbH, emphasised: “We are pleased to be working with Nordex to implement a large-scale wind farm at a forest site for which these turbines are ideally suited.” SAB WindTeam GmbH, active in Germany, operates in the development and management of large onshore wind energy projects. This project confirms a strategic development approach focusing on installing turbines specifically adapted to the geographically and environmentally complex characteristics of German forested terrains.
