In September, the Nordex Group received a 66 MW order for the construction of a wind farm in Scotland. This order concerns the Douglas West Extension project, located in the rural South Lanarkshire region, about 40 kilometers southeast of Glasgow. The project is developed in collaboration with Capital Dynamics, a private asset management firm specializing in clean energy, which owns and operates nearly 2 GW of energy assets across Europe.

The twelve N149/5.X turbines will be installed on tubular steel towers with a height of 125 meters, with a total construction height limited to 200 meters per unit. The selected area benefits from favorable wind conditions, ensuring optimal utilization of the turbines. The park is part of a larger wind cluster that includes several projects already in service or in the approval phase in the vicinity.

Long-term service contract

The contract also includes a 30-year Premium Service agreement, ensuring continuous technical support and maintenance of the installations. This type of contract helps ensure the reliability of equipment throughout its lifecycle while maximizing energy production. Jason Welch, Managing Director for the UK and Ireland at Nordex, stated: “We are honored to supply highly efficient turbines to our client Capital Dynamics for the Douglas West Extension project. This project is another milestone in our contribution to the UK’s energy transition.”

A strategic project for energy independence

Douglas West Extension is part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening the UK’s energy independence. The expected production will help reduce energy costs for local consumers while supporting the country’s decarbonation goals. The project is expected to be fully operational by summer 2025, with the gradual commissioning of the turbines starting from this period.

A long-standing partnership

The partnership between Nordex and Capital Dynamics is an example of successful collaboration in the renewable energy sector. Capital Dynamics, active in the clean energy sector since 2010, is a key player in the European market. By choosing Nordex’s turbines, the company strengthens its unsubsidized asset portfolio and demonstrates its confidence in the German group’s technological capabilities.

With this new project, the Nordex Group continues to expand its presence in the UK market, one of the most dynamic in terms of onshore wind. The strong demand for sustainable and competitive energy solutions remains a key driver for the development of new projects.
