Neoen and Prokon announce the start of construction of their wind farms Storbötet (105.4 MW) and Lumivaara (55.8 MW) in Finland. The two parks mark a significant step forward in the field of renewable energy in the Nordic country.

These projects were made possible by the signing of power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure services and delivery. The agreements are for a period of 10 years and allow Equinix to acquire 60% of the energy generated by Storbötet and 80% of the energy generated by Lumivaara.

Storbötet and Lumivaara mark Neoen’s fourth and fifth wind farms in Finland, increasing its operational or under construction capacity to more than 700 MW in this country. Neoen is recognized as one of the leading producers of exclusively renewable energy, while Prokon is a large renewable energy cooperative.

Operational in 2025

The construction work was entrusted to Vestas, a company specialized in wind turbines. Storbötet, located in the municipality of Uusikaarlepyy in the Ostrobothnia region, will be equipped with 17 Vestas wind turbines, offering a total capacity of 105.4 MW. Lumivaara will be composed of 9 Vestas wind turbines and will have a total capacity of 55.8 MW. The wind farms should be operational as early as 2025.

These initiatives are part of the transition to cleaner energy and will produce competitive energy while contributing to Equinix’s goal of being climate neutral by 2030.

Neoen has an 80% stake in each park, while Prokon owns the remaining 20%. The two companies have co-developed these projects in partnership. By combining these new wind farms with other wind power facilities such as Mutkalampi (404 MW), Hedet (81 MW) and Björkliden (40.4 MW), as well as a battery in Yllikkälä (30 MW / 30 MWh), Neoen strengthens its position as a dynamic renewable energy producer in Finland. With nine APPs signed in the country, the company continues to play a key role in the country’s energy transition.
