Linde and OCI, building a low carbon complex

Linde and OCI have signed a long-term agreement that will pave the way for the use of clean, low-carbon fuels. Using Linde’s advanced technologies and extensive pipeline network, the operation is expected to generate 1.7 million metric tons of captured emissions per year.

Linde announced today that it has entered into a long-term agreement with OCI to build, own and operate an on-site complex that includes an autothermal reformer and air separation facility. The new complex will be integrated into Linde’s Gulf Coast industrial gas network and will supply clean hydrogen to OCI’s Beaumont, Texas plant.

A transition to a low-carbon economy

The project is expected to start in 2025 and the total investment will be $1.8 billion. Once finalized, it will provide 1.7 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions to be captured per year.

According to CEO Sanjiv Lamba, “Linde’s capabilities are already enabling the transition to a low-carbon economy.” The company works with off-takers such as OCI to provide the market with low-carbon industrial gases.

Linde’s capabilities

For his part, General Manager Ahmed El-Hoshy emphasizes that “the facility will allow us to build and strengthen our global clean fuels platform by supplying the US and international markets”. He says Linde’s exceptional expertise and extensive pipeline network make it a natural choice for this type of operation.
