French renewable hydrogen producer Lhyfe has announced its first deliveries of green hydrogen to the Netherlands, supplying Essent, the country’s main energy provider. The supply is part of the GROHW project, developed in Deventer and led notably by Essent and Nefit Bosch. This marks Lhyfe’s first commercial delivery on the Dutch market.

A multi-year contract and strategic foothold

Lhyfe will supply Essent with green hydrogen under a multi-year procurement contract, previously disclosed in its 2024 half-year results. The hydrogen is used to power Essent’s hydrogen station in Deventer, which notably supplies Nefit Bosch’s newly opened hydrogen boiler testing centre. The facility will be used to test equipment intended for the European market.

The delivery comes amid active development of hydrogen solutions in the Netherlands. Nefit Bosch, a subsidiary of the Bosch Group, is testing several systems compatible with green hydrogen, targeting the launch of an “H2 Ready” boiler by 2029. The initiative aligns with emission reduction goals in the residential sector while diversifying energy supply sources.

Expanding industrial presence in Europe

Lhyfe currently operates four green hydrogen production sites in France and Germany, having completed over 470 deliveries in 2024. Its logistics fleet includes approximately 70 containers, enabling a 99% service rate. The company plans to expand with a 200 MW project in the Delfzijl industrial cluster in northern Netherlands, with a first phase of 120 MW expected to be operational by 2030.

The Delfzijl site is designed to connect to the European hydrogen backbone, positioning Lhyfe on a strategic industrial interconnection corridor. The project primarily targets applications in the chemical sector, which is a key area for renewable hydrogen integration.

Technological partnership and market outlook

The GROHW project brings together several industrial partners, including Firan and Witteveen+Bos, in a bid to develop a local ecosystem centred on green hydrogen. Essent, which serves around 2.5 million customers in the Netherlands, is diversifying its supply portfolio within an emerging segment.

The operational rollout of the project, combined with the integration of a technology player like Bosch, paves the way for new applications in residential and commercial buildings. As a supplier, Lhyfe strengthens its presence in the Dutch market, which it has identified as a strategic priority.
