JERA invests in the decarbonization of the Philippines with Aboitiz Power

JERA and Aboitiz Power Corporation join forces to study ammonia co-firing for decarbonization of coal-fired power plants in the Philippines.

JERA Co, Inc. and Aboitiz Power Corporation signed a memorandum of understanding for a joint study on ammonia co-firing in coal-fired power plants in the presence of the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. This study is another step towards decarbonizing Aboitiz Power’s business in the Philippines.

JERA investment in Aboitiz Power

In December 2021, JERA invested in Aboitiz Power through JERA Asia Pte. Ltd. The goal was to accelerate the decarbonization of the Philippines by working with Aboitiz Power. The MOU stipulates to study the feasibility of ammonia co-firing in the coal-fired power plants in which Aboitiz Power has invested and the development of the hydrogen and ammonia supply chain in the Philippines. This method will trigger the decarbonization of Aboitiz Power’s activity.
