Iglesias, in the region of Castilla y León will soon have the most powerful onshore wind turbines from Siemens Gamesa. This is the first equipment of the 5.X platform in Spain.

Iberdrola announces that the Iglesias wind farm will have a capacity of 70MW. As a result, the project will produce enough clean energy to power more than 66,000 homes per year. In addition, it will avoid the emission of 32,000 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.

The investment for Iglesias amounts to approximately €72 million. The construction of this wind farm will have an important local component. In fact, Iberdrola will employ public works companies, such as Copsa de Burgos.

A park with a regional vision

In addition to the 260 professionals planned, the construction will also have a regional vision. In fact, the nacelles will come from the Siemens Gamesa factory in Agreda (Soria). In addition, the gearboxes of the wind turbines, of 6MW and 170 meters of rotor, will come from Lerma (Burgos).

In addition, different suppliers will produce different components, such as the towers of the wind turbines in Avilés and Linares. With Iglesias Iberdrola will strengthen its commitment to the region of Castilla y León. In fact, the company already manages more than 5100MW in this Spanish region.

Thus, it is the autonomous community with the most renewable megawatts installed by the company. In addition, in the province of Burgos, Iberdrola was building or developing more than 550MW between seven wind farms. In addition, the company is building the Valdemoro and Buniel wind farms and has made its first photovoltaic plant operational.
