The HY4Link project, jointly developed by Creos Luxembourg Hydrogen S.A., Fluxys hydrogen S.A. and NaTran, has officially been recognised as a project of common interest (PCI) by the European Commission. This designation marks a significant step in the development of this cross-border hydrogen transport infrastructure linking Luxembourg, France, Belgium and Germany.
A strategic corridor for hydrogen in Europe
HY4Link aims to create a secure and interconnected network that will link several regional hydrogen infrastructure projects to the European Hydrogen Backbone, an initiative involving 33 energy infrastructure operators working to establish a fluid, pan-European market for renewable and low-carbon hydrogen.
Recognition as a PCI enables HY4Link to access European Union funding through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) and benefit from streamlined regulatory procedures. The project is now eligible for structured community support, reinforcing its ability to connect existing and future networks across European territories.
Connection to mosaHYc and H2med projects
HY4Link’s planned route includes interconnections with several major initiatives, including mosaHYc via Thionville-Bouzonville and the H2med corridor through Nancy. In Belgium, the infrastructure will be connected to the national hydrogen backbone at Bras-Liège, further strengthening energy integration within the Greater Region.
The project also plans new hydrogen connections between Luxembourg, France and Belgium. It is a strategic component for supplying hydrogen to industrial and transport sectors in a densely populated and industrialised area.
First PCI recognition for Luxembourg
According to Creos Luxembourg Hydrogen, HY4Link becomes the first Luxembourg-based project to receive PCI status. Chief Executive Officer Laurence Zenner stated that this recognition “lays the foundation for a cross-border hydrogen system” aligned with regional industrial needs.
Pascal De Buck, Chief Executive Officer of Fluxys Hydrogen, noted that the project represents an important milestone “towards an open-access European hydrogen network”. Sandrine Meunier, Chief Executive Officer of NaTran, emphasised the importance of this recognition for cross-border cooperation between France and its European neighbours.
