RWE is increasingly involved in the development of solar energy in Europe. In Andalusia, the company has begun construction work on the Gazules ground-mounted photovoltaic project.
Characteristics of the Gazules project
The Gazules project will include two solar farms with a nominal capacity of 92 MWac. Work has already begun on Gazules 1, which will be equipped with 240,000 bifacial modules. This will allow the solar power plant to increase its production and be more efficient thanks to the use of double-sided cells and an additional glass to capture the refracted light. When the project is completed in late 2023, it will supply 20,000 Spanish homes with green electricity each year.
RWE’s commitment in Spain
RWE currently operates three photovoltaic plants and a fourth is planned for this year: Casa Valdes (44 MWp) near Madrid, Puerta del Sol (34 MWp) and Las Vaguadas (20MWp) in the province of Badajoz and finally Gazules (92 MWp). The total commissioning of the project is expected to reach a cumulative capacity of about 250 MWp, which will make a great contribution to the Spanish climate objectives.
