GameChange Solar lance quatre projets solaires en Afrique Australe pour augmenter la capacité régionale et soutenant les opérations minières.

GameChange Solar, a world leader in solar tracking solutions for ground-mounted photovoltaic installations, has just announced its latest coup: the supply of its Genius Tracker systems for four new solar projects in Southern Africa. These initiatives, totalling over 500 megawatts, are designed to strengthen the region’s energy supply, while supporting crucial mining operations.

Strategic projects in South Africa and Zimbabwe

Three of the projects are located in South Africa, including a RMIPPP project in the Northern Cape and two private projects to supply mining operations in the Northern Cape and Limpopo. These projects should not only ensure energy self-sufficiency, but also contribute to the country’s economic growth. The fourth project, located in Zimbabwe, concerns phase 1 of the 185 MW Zimplats solar power plant, dedicated to powering the Zimplats platinum mining operation, with commissioning scheduled for the end of May 2024.

Local commitment and sustainable development

These projects are a perfect example of how private entities, government agencies and energy players can work together to promote sustainable development in Southern Africa. GameChange Solar’s recent announcement of the opening of a training and service center for its Genius Tracker products in South Africa reinforces this commitment, testifying to the company’s desire to support sustainable development in the region and more broadly in the environmental field.

Regional impact and outlook

According to Derick Botha, CCO of GameChange Solar: “Southern Africa has a huge opportunity to transform its energy landscape through these large-scale solar projects, particularly in South Africa, where solar represents a key solution to mitigate the ongoing energy crisis and drive the transition to clean energy.”

GameChange Solar’s investment in solar projects in Southern Africa could not only catalyze the region’s energy transition, but also lay the foundations for greener, more sustainable economic growth.
