Fox Coulée is Neoen ‘s first asset in Canada. The site is located in Alberta in Starland County. Neoen owns 100% of the solar park, the turnkey contract for its construction goes to Goldbeck Solar.
The Fox Coulée solar park will have a capacity of 93MWp. In addition, the site will benefit from a connection to ATCO Electric’s 24.5kV distribution network. In addition, the solar power plant will contribute to Canada and Alberta’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2035.
A deregulated market
Fox Coulée will be commissioned in the first quarter of 2024. Once operational, it will avoid the emission of approximately 70,000 tons of CO2 per year. In addition, the solar park is expected to produce enough electricity to power more than 20,000 homes.
Emmanuel Pujol, Neoen’s regional director for the Americas, says:
“I would like to congratulate our teams for their hard work in bringing this first project to fruition in Canada. This is a major step in the development of Neoen’s presence in the country. The start of construction at Fox Coulée comes just one year after our local team was put in place and demonstrates our commitment and drive to become a leading player in Alberta and Canada.”
Neoen intends to sell a part of the electricity produced, as well as the environmental benefits via power purchase agreements. The remainder will be sold into the Alberta electricity market, taking advantage of the province’s deregulated electricity market.
