ENERTRAG, a company specializing in renewable energy and green hydrogen production, has announced the launch of a public auction for 500 tons of green hydrogen at the E-World 2025 trade fair in Essen. This event, taking place from February 11 to 13, serves as a key platform for the development of the hydrogen economy in Europe.

A strategic electrolyzer in Osterweddingen

Located near Magdeburg, a 10 MW electrolyzer is currently under construction in Osterweddingen. It is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2025. Powered exclusively by onshore wind sources from ENERTRAG’s wind farms, this site will produce approximately 900 tons of green hydrogen annually. The facility will help stabilize the electricity grid by balancing fluctuations in renewable electricity generation.

An auction to anticipate production

Of the expected annual production, 500 tons of hydrogen will be auctioned at E-World 2025. This sale aims to ensure early access to green hydrogen for industrial players and boost market demand. This amount of hydrogen could be used to produce around 5,000 tons of green steel, supply fuel for hydrogen buses and trucks covering approximately 5 million kilometers, or produce 2,500 tons of green methanol.

An expanding network

ENERTRAG is also developing hydrogen infrastructure at several strategic sites along the main H2 network in Germany. Two new hydrogen plants with a total electrolysis capacity of 185 MW will be built in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. By 2028, these facilities are expected to produce up to 17,000 tons of hydrogen per year, strengthening the supply of sustainable energy for the industrial sector.
