Encavis AG, operating in the wind and solar sectors, has acquired a 12-megawatt (MW) wind farm project located in Bad Arolsen-Landau, in western Hesse. Developed by ABO Energy, the project includes the construction of two wind turbines, with work already underway. The wind farm is expected to be connected to the grid by October 2025.

Since 2023, this acquisition marks the fifth collaboration between Encavis and ABO Energy in Germany. Mario Schirru, Chief Investment Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Encavis AG, clarified that this acquisition represents a further step in their accelerated growth strategy, aiming for a 7-gigawatt capacity in Europe by 2027. This development is part of the company’s goal to strengthen its position in renewable energy in Europe.

Sustainable partnership strategy in wind energy

The acquisition of this project strengthens the long-standing relationship between Encavis and ABO Energy. Dr. Thomas Treiling, CEO of ABO Energy, emphasized the importance of this collaboration, noting that nearly a quarter of the wind turbines installed in Germany by ABO Energy are located in Hesse, a region where the company has a strong presence. This synergy between the two companies aims to ensure their continued joint development in the wind energy sector.

Technical specifications and production capacity

The Bad Arolsen-Landau wind farm will feature two Vestas V162/6.0 wind turbines, each with a production capacity of 6 MW, and a hub height of 169 meters. Once completed, the farm will produce approximately 30 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of green electricity per year. The power purchase agreement (PPA) has been signed under the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), with a 20-year guaranteed term. Vestas will also be responsible for the maintenance of the turbines during this period.

Encavis’ growth ambitions in Europe

Encavis continues to invest in renewable energy projects across Europe as part of its strategy to increase its installed capacity. The Bad Arolsen-Landau project exemplifies the company’s commitment to supporting the energy transition in Europe while consolidating its market share in the wind and solar sectors. By 2027, Encavis plans to connect 7 gigawatts of production capacity to its European network.
