EDP Renewables, the world’s fourth-largest producer of renewable energy, is one of the winners of the latest wind power tender issued by the French energy regulator (CRE), securing more than 35 MW of installed capacity to be deployed over the coming years.

Energy transition in Normandy and Hauts de France: EDPR develops two wind power projects.

EDPR has been awarded a 20-year Contract for Difference (CfD) for two projects: the Sceaux wind farm (under development in Normandy) and the Grands Bails wind farm (under construction in the Hauts de France region). The Sceaux project comprises seven wind turbines. It will be installed in the communes of Londinières and Wanchy-Capval in Seine-Maritime. With a total output of 29.4 MW, the turbines will generate enough clean electricity to supply a town the size of Dieppe. The Sceaux project is an integral part of the Seine-Maritime department’s energy transition. As such, it contributes to national objectives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The park will prevent the emission of over 25,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

EDP Renewables plans to commission the project by 2025. The 3.45 MW Grands Bails project will be located in the commune of Montloué, in the Aisne department. It will provide low-carbon energy for the equivalent of a third of the population of a town like Château-Thierry. This project will avoid the emission of over 4,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.

France bets on innovation in renewable energies: EDPR awarded more than 1.1 GW.

The award of these projects to EDPR follows a call for tenders initially for 925 MW, but which eventually reached over 1.1 GW, demonstrating the momentum of the French market towards energy transition.

“Wind power is becoming more and more competitive with every tender in our market. The final capacity produced and the weighted average price of the total volume allocated prove this. Renewable energies are not only a clean source of energy, they also offer interesting economic potential. We are delighted that France is committed to encouraging innovation and the development of renewable energies in this crucial decade for the sustainability of our economies, and we are committed to supporting the country on the path to energy transition”, says Etienne Thomassin, Managing Director of EDP Renewables France.

In the country for more than 15 years, EDP Renewables has an installed capacity of over 700 MW in operation, including more than 200 MW of its own. In addition, in 2023, the company began construction of its first photovoltaic project in France. A project in collaboration with Kronos Solar.
