EDF Renewables and Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC) announce the construction of 22.5MW of solar projects.

A substantial portfolio

EDF Renewables North America and ODEC announce the start of construction of 22.5MW of local solar projects. This is the first phase in ODEC members’ service territories in Virginia and Delaware. The total portfolio will add approximately 50MW to several ODEC member communities.

The portfolio will bring regional and energy diversification to the cooperative’s production. EDF Renewable and ODEC would sign an agreement in 2019 to develop a portfolio of local solar projects. These projects will be located in the territories of the 11 members of the CEDO cooperative.

A non-profit cooperative

The partnership with EDF Renewables is a welcome development for ODEC, whose CEO, Marcus Harris, has announced the start of construction. ODEC says it looks forward to adding these clean energy projects to its portfolio. Myles Burnsed, vice president of strategic developments for distribution-scale energy at EDF Renewables, says:

“Our unique partnership with ODEC optimizes the implementation of distribution-scale projects. These solar projects can provide maximum savings to ODEC members through locally sourced, clean energy. We look forward to completing this first phase.”

ODEC is a not-for-profit electricity supply cooperative. It serves the energy needs of its 11 member electric distribution cooperatives. For example, the cooperative provides electricity to 1.5 million people in 70 counties in Virginia, Maryland and Delaware.
