EDF Renewables has selected ONYX Insight to centralise mechanical condition monitoring of its global wind fleet, covering over 5GW of installed capacity. The partnership is based on the fleetMONITOR platform, a hardware-agnostic solution designed to enhance predictive maintenance and improve equipment availability.
Unifying multi-supplier monitoring systems
Operating more than 14.2GW of renewable assets worldwide, EDF Renewables faced the challenge of managing disparate Condition Monitoring Systems (CMS) from various providers. Through the integration of fleetMONITOR, the company is streamlining its CMS oversight, encompassing ONYX Insight’s ecoCMS and ecoCMS Flex technologies as well as third-party systems.
This consolidation aims to reduce the risk of undetected failures and to improve maintenance planning. Condition monitoring engineers at EDF Renewables’ e-Diagnostic Centre (eDC), based in Colombiers and Montpellier, now benefit from a single interface backed by over a decade of mechanical failure data.
A structured partnership for scale-up
The adoption of fleetMONITOR followed a pilot programme launched in 2022, after which EDF Renewables validated the platform’s technical suitability. The collaboration has since evolved into a long-term arrangement. ONYX Insight also delivered comprehensive training to EDF teams to ensure smooth system integration.
The operational goal is to bring more than 5GW of assets under centralised monitoring by the end of 2025, reflecting a major step in lifecycle management of turbine components. According to Sven Thiesen, Director of Sales and Engineering for Europe at ONYX Insight, the collaboration illustrates “the flexibility and scalability of fleetMONITOR.”
