EDF and Fortum sign a framework cooperation agreement for the deployment of nuclear reactors in Sweden and Finland.
A framework agreement
EDF and Fortum sign a framework cooperation agreement to explore opportunities for collaboration in the deployment of SMR. The two partners are also integrating conventional reactors (EPR) into their cooperation. Both companies are looking to expand into the Finnish and Swedish markets.
The two partners announced this framework agreement at the second meeting of the NUWARD International Advisory Committee. Fortum is exploring the preconditions for building new nuclear capacity in Finland and Sweden. Thus, the international energy company based in Finland, is starting a two-year feasibility study.
A Scandinavian market
EDF has the ambition to deploy a fleet of EPR units across Europe. The French company is currently developing the 340MWe NUWARD SMR. In addition, it would be commercialized as early as 2025.

For its part, Fortum is pleased to cooperate with EDF, Europe’s leading nuclear company. In addition, the company is interested in cooperating to study EDF’s advanced fleet approach.
