Daldrup & Söhne AG (ISIN DE0007830572), a company specializing in drilling technology and geothermal energy solutions, announced that it has secured two significant contracts as part of research projects. These contracts, awarded by German institutions, represent a total value of 3 million euros.

The first contract was signed with the Geological Service of North Rhine-Westphalia, based in Krefeld. Within this project, Daldrup & Söhne AG has been appointed as the general contractor to execute a research well in the Krefeld-Girmesgath region. The goal of this operation is to investigate the geothermal potential of Carboniferous limestone at a maximum depth of 1,000 meters. This project is part of the “Geothermal Energy Master Plan” adopted by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2024. Preparatory work at the drilling site has already begun, and the drilling phase is scheduled to take place from February to May 2025.

A second project focused on crystalline reservoirs

The second contract was awarded by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and concerns a research project in the municipality of Grasellenbach, Hesse. The primary objective of this operation is to drill an exploratory well, named GeoLab-1, as part of an initiative led by a consortium of research institutions.

The GeoLaB project aims to assess the feasibility of constructing and operating an underground laboratory designed to analyze crystalline reservoirs for geothermal energy. This research infrastructure seeks to address fundamental questions about the development and use of these reservoirs. With site preparation completed, drilling and associated measurement work will commence in February 2025.

A growing market for geothermal energy

These two projects highlight the increasing importance of geothermal research in the energy transition across Europe. Although these initiatives primarily focus on scientific research, they also align with a broader strategy of industrializing renewable energy solutions.

Daldrup & Söhne AG thereby strengthens its position as a key partner in geothermal research projects in Germany, with recognized expertise in precision drilling and the analysis of complex underground structures.
