Cutlass Solar Two, a photovoltaic project of Bechtel and Sabanci Renewables, will supply the U.S. solar market.

An American solar project

Cutlass Solar Two is part of the Biden administration’s drive to achieve 40% solar by 2035. Sabanci chooses Bechtel to build its Cutlass Solar Two installation. It will have an installed capacity of 272MWdc.

Cutlass Solar Two will save 600,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year. This represents the consumption of 40,000 households. The project will be located in Texas, in Fort Bend County.

The project is the first large-scale U.S. solar park for Sabanci, one of Turkey’s leading companies. Sabanci Renewables will own and operate the facility. Construction will begin in the first quarter of 2023 and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024.

Innovative facilities

Bechtel plans to engage regional suppliers in Texas and the U.S. Gulf Coast states. The Cutlass Solar Two project is expected to create over 200 jobs. In addition, the company plans to implement training programs for local community residents.

Bechtel’s role includes engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning and project management. The company offers innovations such as automated equipment for efficiency and the use of robotics for digital mapping. This allows it to provide very good quality renewable energy installations.

Ismail Bilgin, CEO of Sabanci Renewables, says:

“Sabanci and Bechtel worked closely together to develop the project on a record schedule, and we are confident that our partnership will successfully deliver our first renewable energy facility in the United States as planned. Bechtel’s strong reputation for successful EPC execution, including its global supply chain expertise, its ability to attract and train local labor, and its reputation for self-performing design and construction of clean electrical facilities across the United States made it the right choice to build the project. We believe this is the beginning of a lasting partnership developing renewable energy projects in the United States.”

In addition, Bechtel is a major player in the U.S. solar market. The company is currently working on several gigawatts of solar power in various stages of development and construction across the United States.
