Nextracker Inc., a Nasdaq-listed solar power plant technology provider, announced it has been selected by Casa dos Ventos, one of Brazil’s leading renewable energy developers, to supply its NX Horizon-XTR and NX Horizon tracker systems for a portfolio of four solar and hybrid projects with a total capacity of 1.5 gigawatts (GW).
A portfolio of strategic projects
The projects include Babilônia Sul (117 MW), Babilônia Centro (226 MW), Seriemas (540 MW) and Rio Brilhante (680 MW). They will be located in the states of Bahia and Mato Grosso do Sul. This order marks the first large-scale use of solar solutions by Casa dos Ventos as part of its strategy to develop hybrid power plants combining wind and solar at shared grid connection points.
Three of the sites — Babilônia Sul, Babilônia Centro and Seriemas — will use the NX Horizon-XTR version, designed to adapt to rugged terrain and reduce earthmoving costs. All sites will integrate the TrueCapture energy yield management and control system, based on sensors and machine learning to optimise panel angles and maintain expected performance despite variations in lighting and uneven terrain.
An expanding solar market
According to the Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association (ABSOLAR), Brazil plans to add 13.2 GW of new solar capacity in 2025, bringing the total to 64.7 GW by the end of the year. Investments are expected to exceed $7 billion (BRL39.4 billion), generating more than 396,000 jobs and around $2.3 billion (BRL13 billion) in tax revenue.
Nextracker claims more than 130 GW of solar trackers shipped to over 40 countries and has localised manufacturing capacity in Brazil. Casa dos Ventos, historically focused on wind energy, is diversifying its assets and strengthening its presence in a solar segment experiencing rapid growth in the Brazilian market.
