Carlton Power has signed partnership agreements to supply hydrogen fuel to Imerys and Sibelco, two international mining and materials companies. This fuel will be produced by the Langage Green Hydrogen project, which has been shortlisted by the UK government for financial support.

Energy transition of Imerys and Sibelco

The project is located eight miles east of Plymouth, Devon, and will be the first of its kind in southwest England. The Langage site will supply the mining operations of Sibelco in Cornwood and Imerys in Lee Moor, which produce mainly kaolin for the brick, ceramic and tile industries.

Both companies intend to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade and the transition to hydrogen is an important lever in their sustainability strategies. The Carlton Power project will therefore help both companies achieve their sustainability goals.

Support of local organizations

The development of Langage Green Energy has been supported by a number of local organizations including South Hams District Council, Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce and the South West Business Council. The project is part of the proposed Plymouth and South Devon Freeport.

Carlton Power intends to begin construction on site before the end of the year, subject to reaching final agreements on the Langage project with the UK government and a financial investment decision. The Langage site was granted planning permission by South Hams Council in 2022.
