Baker Hughes, the American energy technology company, has secured a 90-month service agreement from bp for its Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant located in Papua Barat province, Indonesia. The agreement includes the provision of spare parts, repair services and on-site technical support for all turbomachinery at the facility, including heavy-duty gas turbines, steam turbines and compressors across the three liquefaction trains.

A strengthened long-term partnership

Bp has operated the Tangguh LNG project since 2009 and has worked with Baker Hughes since then. In 2024, the American group was already selected to supply additional critical compression and power generation systems as part of the Tangguh UCC expansion project. The newly announced agreement extends this cooperation, ensuring the reliability of production operations.

A strategic site for Asia-Pacific

The Tangguh LNG complex is a central element of Indonesia’s energy strategy. It contributes to regional liquefied natural gas supply, with an annual capacity exceeding 11mn tonnes. Baker Hughes’ support is expected to sustain the performance and availability of turbomachinery infrastructure, which is essential to the operation of liquefaction lines.

Local integration and content requirements

As part of the contract, Baker Hughes is working with PT Imeco Inter Sarana, its local partner, to meet Indonesia’s local content requirements. This partnership is designed to strengthen the presence of technical and industrial expertise in the country while ensuring continuity of services at the site.
