Alpiq has announced the sale of its Bulgarian wind farm Vetrocom, Alpiq Energia Bulgaria, and Alpiq Wind Services to Renalfa, thus continuing its strategy of geographical concentration on its core markets.

Alpiq sells its Vetrocom wind farm to Renalfa

The Bulgarian company built the Vetrocom wind farm near the town of Kazanlak, 200 km east of Sofia. The sale is subject to customary closing conditions, including the approval of competition authorities.

With the sale of Alpiq, Renalfa has acquired the Vetrocom wind farm. With a capacity of 72.5 megawatts (MW), it produces an average of 135 gigawatt hours (GWh) of climate-friendly electricity per year.

Alpiq Wind Services is primarily responsible for the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the Vetrocom wind farm. Alpiq Energia Bulgaria is optimizing the sale of electricity generated by the wind farm. It also optimizes the purchase and sale of control energy in relation to Vetrocom and for third-party assets.

The sale of Alpiq to Renalfa also includes Alpiq Wind Services and the trading activities of Alpiq Energia Bulgaria. The sale represents a further step for them towards a geographically focused energy company in its core markets.

Subject to customary closing conditions and antitrust approval, the parties are expected to complete the transaction in 2023.

Renalfa IPP is one of the leading investors and developers in Eastern Europe. In fact, it has more than 450 MW of operational assets or projects under active construction and more than 1 GW of projects in advanced stages of development. The company is active in Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Northern Macedonia. However, the selling price was not disclosed. Renalfa IPP is strengthening its presence in renewable energies in Eastern Europe with the acquisition of Vetrocom from Alpiq.
