Alcazar Energy Partners, an independent investor in renewable energy across emerging markets, formalized on November 14, 2024, a strategic partnership with two key players in Egypt’s energy sector. This memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) and the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA). The objective: to develop an onshore wind project with a capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW) in Egypt.

This ambitious project aligns with Egypt’s national strategy to accelerate its energy transition and enhance environmental sustainability. The future wind farm is expected to produce enough clean electricity to power more than 1.3 million households, significantly reducing the country’s carbon footprint. According to estimates, this project will prevent the emission of 4.7 million tons of carbon dioxide annually, marking a major step toward global climate objectives.

A project aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030

This partnership echoes Egypt’s Vision 2030, an ambitious roadmap promoting a sustainable energy transition and robust renewable capacities. In addition to its environmental benefits, the project is expected to yield significant economic impacts. Up to 12,500 workers will be engaged during the construction phase, and nearly 1,170 permanent positions will be created to ensure the long-term operations of the wind farm.

Alcazar Energy Partners, represented by its Co-Founder and Managing Partner Daniel Calderon, emphasized the importance of this collaboration in an official statement: “This partnership with EETC and NREA reflects our shared commitment to supporting Egypt’s energy transition through large-scale, sustainable infrastructure projects. Together with the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, we are building a cleaner and greener future for Egypt.”

A cooperation model for the future

Egypt, with its abundant natural resources and strong commitment to renewable energy, is positioning itself as a key player in this sector. This project adds to a series of similar initiatives aimed at diversifying the country’s energy mix and reducing its reliance on fossil fuels. Furthermore, this partnership highlights a model of collaboration between private actors and public institutions, contributing to local expertise development and technological innovation.

EETC and NREA, pillars of energy management and development in Egypt, play a central role in this initiative. Through this project, Egypt will achieve another milestone by consolidating its energy capacities and strengthening its leadership role in sustainability and renewable energy in the region.
