After Portugal, Akuo Energy is to develop two new solar projects in Spain, thus completing its Iberian portfolio.
The French company will be setting up operations in the Albacete region, thus contributing to the development of solar energy in Spain.
The country has great ambitions with this energy.
Akuo develops 160 GW of solar power in the Albacete region
230 GWh per year of expected production
The two projects, Almansa (100 MW) and Tres Puntas (60 GW), will be linked to the national grid at Montesa via a substation.
A guaranteed tariff has already been agreed for a period of 12 years.
The photovoltaic power plants will feature bifacial solar panels mounted on trackers.
They will maximize light capture and can generate up to 230 GWh per year.
While these projects appear to be a major boost to Spain’s energy transition, they will also enable Akuo to strengthen its presence on the Iberian peninsula.
Nevertheless, we’ll have to wait until the 1st quarter of 2023 for these projects to become effective.
70% clean electricity in Spain by 2030
These projects represent a first victory for Akuo in Spain, and reinforce its presence on the peninsula with its recent move into Portugal.
The production of renewable electricity is one of Spain’s strong points, with one of the most dynamic markets in Europe.
As a result, renewable energies already account for over 40% of the country’s energy mix.
These two contracts will enable Spain to reach 70% of electricity production from sustainable sources by 2030, and 100% by 2050.
