In the UAE, geothermal energy is becoming a real opportunity that attracts more and more companies. ADNOC Drilling Company PJSC has signed a five-year memorandum of understanding with Masdar to collaborate around development, investment, operations and projects to responsibly advance the energy transition in the UAE and globally.

Technical expertise and advice on geothermal energy

As part of the MOU, ADNOC Drilling will be engaged as a technical expert. He will also serve as a drilling consultant to support Masdar’s geothermal energy deployment in the UAE and around the world. The companies will jointly evaluate the potential of ADNOC Drilling to provide geothermal drilling services. Geothermal energy harnesses the heat generated in the earth’s core to provide a constant source of energy, unlike solar or wind, which are intermittent in nature.

Advanced and efficient drilling technologies for the UAE

Abdulrahman Abdulla Al Seari, CEO of ADNOC Drilling, said their leading integrated drilling services offering can bring advanced and efficient drilling and completion technologies from start to finish. This would allow Masdar to generate clean geothermal energy in the UAE. The latter would be used to cool thousands of houses and office buildings.

Masdar CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi announced that Masdar is committed to opening up new opportunities in clean energy. This partnership will allow Masdar to strengthen its growing renewable energy portfolio, including geothermal energy. Indeed, geothermal energy is a constant source of energy, unlike solar or wind energy which can be intermittent.

Develop new technologies to access geothermal energy

However, access to geothermal energy can be difficult. Masdar has conducted studies to deploy new drilling and completion technologies to generate cost savings throughout the process.

These new technologies will be implemented in collaboration with ADNOC Drilling. Together, the two companies are committed to advancing the global energy transition with this clean and consistent energy source.
