In India, E2S Power and India Power Corporation Limited (IPCL) sign an agreement for a pilot thermal energy storage unit.

A new technology

In India, E2S and IPCL sign an agreement for a 250 KWh thermal energy storage pilot unit. E2S has been designing, building and testing the unit for about nine months. The company says it is passing factory acceptance testing and will deliver in the first quarter of 2023.

This collaboration will enable thermal power plants to be transformed into clean energy storage facilities. As such, it will contribute significantly to India’s renewable energy growth. Anand K Pandey, Head of Renewable Energy and New Business, India Power Corporation Limited, says:

“Long-life energy storage system is the need of the hour due to the rapid growth of renewable energy generation in the global energy mix and this solution is a perfect fit. This technology will also make it possible to meet the need for flexibility in thermal power plants. Through this pilot project in India, we will demonstrate the real-time operation of the technology for easy and confident decision making by all stakeholders.

Site conversion in India

IPCL and E2S Power will work with companies in the power and renewable energy sector in India. The objective is to identify, evaluate and propose integrated thermal energy solutions. Thus, the solutions will be optimized for existing plants that are being closed.

New storage technologies will play a key role in achieving India’s target of 500GW of renewable energy by 2030. E2S’ long-term energy storage gives new life to existing assets.
