Sizewell C, a nuclear power plant in England, is the subject of an advance framework agreement between Framatome and Nuclear New Build Generation.

A twin power plant

Sizewell C, in Suffolk, England, will be a replica of the Hinkley Point C EPR. It will offer significant advantages to the new project in terms of risk minimization, cost reduction and schedule improvement. Indeed, the mirroring of Hinkley Point C allows the project to become more efficient.

The design, construction and supply chain experience will save Sizewell C. time. In addition, it also provides certainty in managing an industrial project of this magnitude. The nuclear power plant will house two EPR reactors.

The two Sizewell C reactors will generate 3.2GW of low-carbon electricity. As a result, the plant will serve approximately 6 million homes in the UK. In addition, approximately 100 new highly qualified jobs will be created to ensure the success of the project.

An anticipated framework agreement

Framatome announces the signature of an advance framework agreement with Nuclear New Build Generation. This company, owned by EDF and the British government, signed the agreement for Sizewell C. This preliminary contract represents the culmination of Framatome’s work on Sizewell C since 2021.

The contract builds on the services that Framatome will continue to provide for the construction of the Hinkley Point C project. In addition, Framatome and Nuclear New Build Generation expect to sign the main contracts for Sizewell C when the final investment decision is made. Bernard Fontana, CEO of Framatome says:

“This agreement is made possible by the recently announced government investment decision which sets out the collaboration and financial support of EDF and the UK government to take the Sizewell C project forward. This signing is an important milestone for Framatome as we reaffirm our commitment to delivering new low carbon nuclear power plants in the UK.”

In addition, the preliminary framework agreement covers specific activities. In fact, it integrates the manufacture of nuclear steam supply systems and the management of the obsolescence of control systems. In addition, it also covers preliminary engineering and procurement activities.
