Q ENERGY is continuing the transformation works on its wind farm located in Cuxac-Cabardès, in the Aude department. Two projects are being carried out simultaneously on this site: the renewal of existing facilities and the extension of the park with new turbines. The construction, which began at the end of the summer, includes dismantling six wind turbines commissioned nearly twenty years ago, along with the necessary groundwork for developing the extension known as Bois de l’Aiguille.
Doubling output without increasing turbine count
The objective of the renewal, known as repowering, is to replace the existing equipment with newer models, maintaining the same number of turbines but doubling installed capacity. In parallel, Q ENERGY is adding four additional turbines on an adjacent area. These projects follow a strategy of upgrading existing infrastructure, limiting land use while optimising electricity production.
Commissioning scheduled for late 2026
According to the announced timeline, the commissioning of all installations is set for the end of 2026. Once operational, the site will generate enough electricity to cover the consumption of over 45,000 people, representing approximately 40% of the population of the Carcassonne urban area. The continuation of this energy activity in the region will also support sustained fiscal revenue for the involved local authorities.
Local investment and institutional support
The mayor of Cuxac-Cabardès, Paul Griffe, visited the construction site in October and highlighted the importance of these projects within the framework of the Montagne Noire Renewable Energy Charter (ENR), which prioritises optimising existing wind farms over developing new sites. For Q ENERGY, conducting both projects simultaneously reflects strong cooperation with local stakeholders and long-term regional presence.
