Energy technology group SLB, through its joint venture OneSubsea, has secured two engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts awarded by Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) for the development of several offshore fields in Malaysia. The projects involve the deepwater gas fields Alum, Bemban and Permai located in Block H, as well as the Kikeh oil field, Malaysia’s first deepwater development.

The contracts cover the full supply of subsea production systems (SPS), including horizontal subsea trees, umbilicals, control systems and associated services. The water depths of the involved fields range between 1,100 and 1,300 metres, requiring technical solutions adapted to complex environments.

Strategic continuity in field development

This new agreement extends an established commercial relationship between SLB OneSubsea and PTTEP, which has already led to the delivery of more than 50 subsea production systems over the past twenty years. The planned deliveries under the two contracts aim to extend the life of the fields and strengthen hydrocarbon output in the region.

The Kikeh field has been operational since 2007, while Block H development began with production from the Rotan and Buluh fields in February 2021. These projects are part of a broader regional effort to secure energy supply in response to rising domestic and regional demand.

Technological expertise focused on deepwater

SLB OneSubsea brings to these projects expertise in deploying subsea technology in complex environments, supported by an early collaboration strategy with clients. This approach is designed to maximise the value of the developed resources while optimising delivery timelines and equipment integration.

Mads Hjelmeland, Chief Executive Officer of SLB OneSubsea, stated that this new step “reflects the efficiency of our collaboration with PTTEP and our ability to deliver robust solutions in demanding offshore conditions.”
