Prysmian and Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE) have signed a framework agreement for the development of cable links to connect two offshore wind farms located along the French coasts to the national power grid. The projects, named “Fos” and “Narbonnaise,” represent a total investment estimated at 700 million euros.

The connections will cover a total distance of 640 kilometers, divided into 400 kilometers of onshore cables and 240 kilometers of submarine cables. The production of the onshore cables will take place in France, at the Gron factory, while the submarine cables will be manufactured in Italy and Finland.

A strategic challenge for the energy network

These projects are part of RTE’s long-term plan to adapt the national power grid to the growing demand for renewable energy. Each wind farm will provide a capacity of 750 MW, contributing to improving the country’s energy independence and advancing the European energy transition.

The installation work will be carried out between 2026 and 2027, while the commissioning of the infrastructure is scheduled between 2031 and 2032. This timeline aligns with France’s goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while securing its energy supply.

A project supported by local industry

By producing part of the equipment on French territory, these projects aim to strengthen the local industrial network and create jobs while meeting European environmental and technical standards. The choice of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur and Occitanie regions also reflects a targeted development strategy to optimize the integration of renewable energy in strategic coastal areas.
