The DRC is banking on the Grand Inga project, the world’s largest hydroelectric dam, to become a major exporter of sustainable energy in Africa, meeting 40% of the continent’s electricity needs, while aiming to diversify its energy economy. The 44,000 MW project is estimated at $80 billion and represents a major pivot in the country’s energy policy.
Innovations in photovoltaic panels will continue to drive down the cost of solar power over the next decade, with improvements in module efficiency driving down capital expenditure and lowering the cost of solar energy.
