ZNShine Solar, a Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic technology, has been selected as the official module supplier for the 50-megawatt Patuca solar project in Honduras. The project, led by the state-owned Empresa Nacional de Energía Eléctrica de Honduras (ENEE), has been entrusted to Representaciones Mecánico Eléctricas, S.A. (REMESA) as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. Financing was secured through a non-recourse debt arrangement provided by the Central Bank of Honduras in December 2024.
Technology tailored for extreme conditions
The chosen modules are ZNShine Solar’s 12BB PERC Monofacial Double-Glass models. These panels were selected for their durability in challenging climate conditions, higher energy output and proven wind resistance. Such technical specifications are considered critical to ensure consistent performance in large-scale installations like Patuca.
The site, located in Terrero Blanco, is scheduled for completion with commissioning expected in October 2025. Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly increase the country’s renewable energy production capacity, aligning with national goals to strengthen energy security.
Technical commitment and institutional support
The project is fully supported by Honduran public institutions, with a non-recourse financing structure designed to minimise risk to state assets. The use of double-glass photovoltaic technology reflects an intent to enhance reliability in a region exposed to varying weather conditions.
William Wang, Chief Executive Officer of ZNShine Solar, stated: “Our modules deliver the reliability and efficiency needed for Honduras’ energy future.” No further details were disclosed regarding the contractual value of the order or the delivery commitments.
