The Urbasolar group has started work on an agrivoltaic solar power plant on a 3-hectare plot of natural grassland in the commune of Mont-Prés-Chambord, in the Loir-et-Cher region. This innovative project, the result of a collaboration between the municipality and Urbasolar, aims to restore agricultural value to an unusual plot of land by combining agricultural activity with renewable energy production.

A synergy between agriculture and solar energy

The agrivoltaic power station, for which work began at the end of 2022, will be developed to accommodate the sheep of a local farmer as well as the production of fodder. The elevation of the photovoltaic panels will allow the good circulation of the livestock on the site. In addition, an increase in inter-row spacing was calculated to meet a need for mechanization and optimization of forage production.

A significant contribution to the energy transition

The 4.4 MWp solar power plant will contribute to the deployment of cleaner energy by producing 5,350 MWh annually, which corresponds to the electricity consumption of 2,500 people, or about 70% of the commune of Mont-Prés-Chambord. This agrivoltaic project is part of a sustainable development approach, allowing an optimized management of natural resources.

A commitment to the agricultural world

Anchored in the territories, Urbasolar regularly partners with local players to benefit from their expertise. For the Mont-Prés-Chambord solar power plant, an agronomic follow-up was set up in partnership with the Loir-et-Cher Chamber of Agriculture. A control area without solar panels was delineated to measure and compare crop production and sheep welfare.
