Woodside Energy has signed LNG sale and purchase agreements with Uniper, covering a total volume of 2 million tonnes per year. These agreements include 1.0 million tonnes per year from the Louisiana LNG LLC project, along with a similar volume from Woodside’s global portfolio via Woodside Energy Trading Singapore Pty. Ltd. These commitments reflect the strong current demand for LNG, particularly in Europe, where energy security remains a key issue.

Supply Agreements and Energy Security

Woodside CEO Meg O’Neill stated that these agreements represent a significant milestone in advancing the Louisiana LNG project toward a final investment decision (FID). “We are pleased to strengthen our long-standing partnership with Uniper through these supply agreements, which demonstrate our reputation as a reliable and flexible LNG provider,” added O’Neill. The Louisiana LNG project, Woodside’s largest growth initiative, benefits from substantial gas resources in the United States and top-tier technological partners.

Contract Details and Terms

Woodside plans to deliver 1.0 million tonnes per year of LNG on a free-on-board basis for up to thirteen years from the commercial operations date (COD) of the Louisiana LNG project. Additionally, an extra volume will be supplied to Uniper from Woodside’s global portfolio on a delivered ex-ship basis, with a contract term extending until 2039. These agreements are, however, contingent on Woodside’s final investment decision for the first phase of the project, which is set to have a total capacity of 16.5 million tonnes per year.

Uniper and Strategic Cooperation

Michael Lewis, CEO of Uniper, emphasized the strategic importance of this agreement for securing LNG supplies in Europe, particularly in supporting energy transition and industrial competitiveness. “Woodside is a key supplier to us, and this new agreement further strengthens our long-term cooperation,” he stated. This partnership complements existing LNG deliveries to Europe and meets the growing demand for reliable and competitive energy sources in a context of high LNG demand.
