The Italian subsidiary of German energy developer VSB Group has received the necessary approvals, including environmental screening and single authorisation, to launch a 6.2 megawatt (MW) solar project in Ponticelli, in the municipality of Città della Pieve. The site will cover approximately 10.6 hectares and supply electricity to the regional grid, with an estimated output equivalent to the annual consumption of around 3,300 people.

Combining agricultural use and energy generation

The project follows an agrivoltaic model, integrating crop rotation between forage and cereal production. This approach allows continued farming activity while maintaining consistent energy output. VSB Italy plans to design the site to allow access for agricultural machinery and ensure full land usability.

Construction is scheduled to begin by mid-2026, with commissioning expected in 2027. The timeline accounts for technical delays related to grid connection. The company anticipates seamless integration into the existing network, in coordination with regional grid operators.

Targeted investment in regional potential

Umbria, with its available land and stable sunlight conditions, has been identified by VSB Italy as a priority territory for solar investments. The choice of Città della Pieve reflects a strategy focused on locally anchored projects, combining energy infrastructure with rural land value optimisation.

This development is part of a series of investments undertaken by the company in the Italian market, where it is expanding its portfolio of mid-scale agrivoltaic projects. The Ponticelli site is the latest to receive regulatory approval.

Strengthening the energy asset portfolio

With this new project, VSB Group strengthens its presence in Italy, expanding its portfolio of mixed-use solar assets. The company states that such projects optimise land use while contributing to regional energy security. This hybrid model also supports diversification of agricultural income without compromising existing land use.
