Reduction of CO2 emissions

In the United States, Braskem America has signed several contracts to reduce emissions in its North American subsidiaries and facilities . The company expects to reduce carbon emissions by more than 15% by 2030. In addition, the company aims to be carbon neutral by 2050.

To achieve this goal, Braskem America is renewing its energysources. The Philadelphia-based company is America’s largest producer of polyolefins. In addition, the company is a pioneer producer of biopolymers on an industrial scale.

Braskem America has five production facilities located in Texas, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The company also has an innovation and technology center in Pittsburgh. Finally, an operations center focused on the exploitation of developments in biotechnology and advanced materials, exists in Boston.

A solid reputation

This announcement is made following the success of Braskem America in signing a renewable energy purchase agreement (PPA) for Neal Energy Solutions. In addition, the company is highlighting the securing of zero-emissions power contracts for Marcus Hook through 2027. Finally, the company highlights the purchase of renewable energy certificates in the Gulf of Mexico.

These initial agreements source wind, solar and nuclear power. The company publishes its Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory every year. Richard Huh, head of renewable energy and decarbonization for Braskem America, says:

“Braskem has a long-standing commitment to sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives, and our renewable and zero-emissions energy purchases reflect another major step forward in our North American carbon neutrality framework. These significant reductions in CO2 emissions would not be possible without the close coordination of our power generation, regulatory and government partners in each of our major operating regions and we are grateful for their support.”

Braskem America has about 8000 employees. The company has a comprehensive portfolio for plastic resins and chemicals. It has a reputation in food packaging, construction, automotive, health and hygiene.
