Trillion Energy International Inc. recently reported positive results from drilling operations in the SASB gas field in Turkey. These interventions led to significant increases in pressure and flow rates in several wells, confirming increased production potential, news that was enthusiastically welcomed in Turkey. The gas sector is developing against a backdrop of rapprochement between Moscow and Ankara with a view to signing a new gas agreement.

Increased Production

Perforation operations on the South Akcakoca-2 well resulted in an increase in pressure from 86 psi to 1046 psi, with throughput reaching 2.88 MMcf/day. This increase indicates the efficient unblocking of tanks initially clogged with water, enabling continuous gas production. Production characteristics show that the perforated zones have successfully expelled water from the well, indicating a resumption of gas production from the unblocked reservoirs.
The Guluc-2 well also showed a notable rise in pressure after perforation, from 650 psi to 1243 psi, before stabilizing at 1098 psi. This well will be temporarily shut-in to allow stabilization of the South Akcakoca-2 well before reaching its own production potential. The increase in pressure during perforation suggests that the gas has penetrated the well from the newly perforated zones. However, updated flow rates will only be established once testing of the South Akcakoca-2 well has been completed.

Next operational steps

Perforating operations are currently continuing on the West Akcakoca-1 well, with plans to also perforate the remaining pay zones of the Akcakoca-3 well. The next phase of the project involves the installation of smaller production casings (2 3/8″) to extend production time before water resumption. This strategy aims to optimize production and extend the productive life of wells.
Arthur Halleran, CEO of Trillion Energy, said that the positive response from the South Akcakoca-2 well, once water has been removed from the perforations, demonstrates that reservoirs can produce gas efficiently after water blockages have been removed. Drilling and monitoring operations will continue in order to assess reservoir response and ensure stable long-term production.
The positive results of Trillion Energy’s drilling operations in the SASB field mark a crucial step towards increasing natural gas production in Turkey. With clear plans to stabilize and optimize production, Trillion Energy strengthens its position in the energy sector. Next steps include ongoing monitoring and optimization of wells to maintain efficient, sustainable production.
