TotalEnergies and Holcim have inaugurated a 31 MW floating solar plant at Obourg, Belgium, on a former chalk extraction site converted into a lake. The facility generates 30 GWh per year of renewable electricity, entirely dedicated to self-consumption at Holcim's industrial sites. The two partners indicate this is the largest floating solar plant in Europe devoted to self-consumption. A directional drill exceeding 700 metres was performed to connect the panels to the electrical substation while preserving the landscape.
