The installation of the 80 wind turbines of the Saint-Nazaire wind farm, which will be the first offshore wind farm in France, was completed on Monday, which will allow a full commissioning by the end of 2022, announced Tuesday the director of the park.
“The foundations are all installed, the cables are all installed and the last wind turbine, it is somewhere, the end of the shell,” summarized to AFP Olivier de La Laurencie, director of the wind farm at sea of Saint-Nazaire.
“In five months, all the wind turbines have been installed,” he added, explaining that the installation of the last wind turbine had taken place “Monday morning at dawn.”
This park is composed of 80 wind turbines, which should produce the equivalent of 20% of the annual electricity consumption of the Loire-Atlantique department.
The connection work of the park had started in 2019, followed by the installation at sea from spring 2021. These 80 wind turbines, with a capacity of 480 MW, are located between 12 and 20 km off the coast, off the
Loire-Atlantique.
The wind turbines have been commissioned one after the other, so “since spring, we have been injecting electricity into the national grid.
The last wind turbine will inject its power in the coming weeks,” Olivier de La Laurencie also explained.
