The LIFE program will receive approximately €380 million in funding for 168 new projects across Europe.
A European program
The LIFE program will benefit from a €380 million approved by the European Commission. At the heart of the European Green Deal, LIFE projects can help the EuropeanUnion become climate neutral by 2050. In addition, it helps support biodiversity, nature restoration and the circular economy.
Created in 1992, the LIFE Program funding has increased by 27% compared to last year. It will mobilize a total of more than $562 million for projects in almost every country in the European Union. In addition, the program is divided into four themes.
The subroutines are: Nature and biodiversity, circular economy, quality of life. A final theme focuses on themitigation and adaptation to climate change. In addition, it focuses on the transition to clean energy.
In addition, 30 projects from the LIFE program worth approximately 144 million euros will contribute to the implementation of the climate law. But also on the Union’s climate change adaptation strategy
Seven clean energy transition projects will establish 16 new one-stop shops. They will facilitate energy renovation for thousands of homeowners in five EU countries under the LIFE program. They are based on reducing household energy bills and encouraging energy communities.
Multiple projects
Within the LIFE Program, there are 27 projects on nature and biodiversity. They will have a total budget of just under €195 million. Of this amount, €127 million is covered by the European Union.
The nature project aims to improve city-wide biodiversity management in Tartu (Estonia), Aarhus (Denmark) and Riga (Latvia). It is part of restoring connectivity and improving ecosystem health.
