TechnipFMC has been awarded a significant contract by Ithaca Energy for the supply and installation of flexible pipes on the development of the Captain field, located in the UK North Sea. The contract includes the design, manufacture, and installation of risers, flowlines, and associated equipment.
The Captain field has been producing since 1997 and has undergone several phases of technological upgrades, including an enhanced oil recovery programme implemented in 2024. The new phase entrusted to TechnipFMC aligns with this strategy to extend the field’s operational life and increase output.
A strengthened relationship with Ithaca Energy
The contract reinforces a long-standing partnership between TechnipFMC and Ithaca Energy. The two companies have collaborated on several subsea projects over the past decade. For the Captain field, TechnipFMC proposed a tailored solution to improve the subsea layout and boost production through flexible infrastructure adapted to site conditions.
Jonathan Landes, President of the Subsea division at TechnipFMC, stated that the collaboration is based on “joint design optimisation and a deep understanding of the Captain field’s requirements.” The company expects this project to further solidify its offshore capabilities in UK waters.
Strategic positioning in European offshore
The North Sea remains a strategic area for TechnipFMC, which operates several integrated service contracts in offshore production and subsea pipeline installation. This new award supports the company’s strategy to diversify and strengthen its client portfolio.
The exact value of the contract has not been disclosed but falls under TechnipFMC’s internal classification for “significant” projects, estimated between $75mn and $250mn. This range indicates a substantial investment in engineering and deployment capacity at the site.
