Tata Power announces it is expanding its presence in Rajasthan at a summit in Jaipur, India, to develop solar energy projects. The company plans to develop projects with a total capacity of 800MW in the next five years.

A strategic region

Tata Power, at the Invest Rajasthan 2022 summit, announced a production target of 800MW. The company plans to provide 1000MW of solar roofs and install solar pumps with a capacity of 1500MW within five years. In addition, the company employs more than 4500 people in the region.

With this decision, Tata Power will create 6,000 to 8,000 additional jobs. Rajasthan has a strategic place in Tata Power’s renewable energy projects. Indeed, the company currently has a portfolio of 4939MWp.

The Indian company has 2066 MW in the region and about 2873MW of solar project capacity under construction. All these projects will be operational within 12 to 24 months. Thus, Tata Power, hopes to reach a capacity of 10,000MW in the state, over a five-year horizon.

An ambitious plan

Tata Power’s subsidiary, TP Ajmer Distribution, after five years of operation, ensures a secure and reliable supply to Ajmer. In addition, it reduces technical and commercial losses from 22% to 9%. The company’s ambition is to develop the electricity network in several other cities in the region through a public-private partnership.

The company installed 21,600 solar pumps in Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Ganganagar, Jalore and Bikaner. Tata Power plans to deploy 150,000 in the next five years. In addition, the group is developing an installed capacity of 65MW in Rajasthan thanks to its photovoltaic panels.

The company supplies marble processing, granite and stone crushing plants in the region. In addition, the installations reduce internal temperatures during the day by about 4 to 5 degrees. Finally, Tata Power is looking to develop charging station infrastructure as part of electric mobility.
