Synthetic methane, Osaka Gas Co, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) and IBM Japan will carry out a proof of concept (PoC). The PoC concerns a system for visualizing the environmental impact of synthetic methane.
A long-awaited study
This synthetic methane project will make use of the CO2NNEX digital platform, developed by MHI and IBM Japan in 2021. Indeed, CO2NNEX is a platform for visualizing the CCUS value chain. CO2NNEX was developed to optimize the visualization of the CO2 supply chain to achieve carbon neutrality.
The platform visualizes and optimizes the environmental value of synthetic methane. CO2NNEX TM visualizes the CCUS of CO2 and hydrogen. In other words, to visualize the volumes of CO2 emissions generated throughout the life cycle of synthetic methane.
In addition, blockchain secures the platform guaranteeing advanced security with guaranteed neutrality and fairness. The CCUS is currently examining methods of counting and using CO2. The results of the PoC should enable us to visualize the CO2 supply chain within CCUS.
Synthetic methane for industry
The system developed will provide traceable, secure data. The project also aims to integrate the future improvement of the business. He will develop a system that will serve as an industry standard for use by other synthetic methane manufacturers.
That’s right, The three partners will also exchange views with the Japan Gas Association. They will also exchange with Tokyo Gas Co Toho Gas Co and INPEX Corporation. This system will enable greater adoption of synthetic methane and monitoring of its environmental impact.
A number of methanization demonstration projects are currently underway. They concern the production and widespread adoption of synthetic methane. In this way, the PoC will contribute to the widespread adoption of synthetic methane and the achievement of carbon neutrality.
